Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp

With over 25 years of experience, Challenger Sports have developed one of the most innovative approaches to coaching youth soccer in the US. Our international coaches study the game at all levels and we have identified the key techniques and skills that players of all ages need to work on and master to reach their true potential. Add this to one of the most fun and up beat camp programs possible and you have a week of soccer that your child will never forget! This summer Challengers team of over 1,000 British Soccer coaches will teach your child soccer with a truly unique twist! The British Soccer camp combines the latest and greatest foot-skills, feints, moves, juggling, core techniques and game tactics, with a variety of cultural and educational experiences for the players. The highlight of the week is the camp World Cup. Coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about history, customs and traditions of other countries. Challenger also weaves lessons on Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Leadership and Sportsmanship into the campers daily routine. Each camper will receive a FREE British Soccer Camp T-Shirt and Soccer Ball, a FREE Giant Soccer Poster and a personalized Skills Performance Evaluation. In addition, any child who signs up online at least 45 days prior to camp will receive a genuine British Soccer Replica Jersey (value $39) Details Programs for all ages and abilities. All camps run Monday through Friday. First Kicks 1 hour each day, ages 2-4 MiniKickers 2 hours each day, ages 4-6 Half Day Camps 3 hour each day, ages 6-16 Full Day Camps 6 hour each day, ages 8-18 Team Camps 3 or 6 hours each day, all ages.

Run 4 Life 5K & Lollipop Dash

April 26, 2014 at the Highland Lake Anchor


This 5K offers beautiful lake views and a challenging run. Walkers welcome. This 5K starts at the bridge near the intersection of Lake Road/Lakeshore Drive. Participants race around the lake on Lakeshore Drive to the intersection of Kennedy Drive/Lakeshore Drive and back to the starting line.

                                *Sign up before April 12th to ensure a t-shirt in your size!*   

Adults: $25

Students/ Senior Citizens (65 & over) :$20


The Lollipop Dash is held near the starting line of the 5K, at the F.E. "Pat" Bellew Park walking trail. It is a concrete sidewalk and is 1/8 of a mile long. The Lollipop Race is for ages 3-10. Races are divided by age and start seperately. (3&4 year olds, 5 & 6 year olds, 7&8 year olds, 9&10 year olds) All participants win a lollipop. First and Second place prizes are given for each age group.

The high point of the beautiful autumn season in Blount County, the Covered Bridge Festival brings the entire area alive with arts and crafts vendors, vintage cars, children's activities, food and music, tours of the renovated, historic covered bridges, a 5k run, quilt show, and pancake breakfast. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

13th Annual JUNE FLING

The June Fling is the OBA's summertime festival of fun, arts and crafts, classic cars, great food, fun for kids, and more! Held on the first Saturday in June (June 7), the event is FREE and there is plenty of parking. Bring the family and your friends and plan to stay the day! Booth applications are now being accepted. There are booths for commercial and non-profit organizations. All booths will be located on First Avenue East in Oneonta, with good locations for everyone! Booths will be located between the classic car show on the east end (last year had 160 entries!), the Singing Showdown in the middle, and the petting zoo and other children's activities on the west end. Just visit the website at www.oneontabusinessassociation.com to download booth forms. New to the June Fling is our Singing Showdown competition. Anyone may enter, male or female. Entries under the age of 18 must have written permission and be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians. Audition DVDs and applications will be received through April 1, 2014. An event committee will narrow down the field of competitors to 25 to 30 preliminary contestants and notify them by May 1, 2014. Then, on June 7, the preliminary round will begin at 9 a.m. Out-of-county judges (with experience in the music industry) will narrow the field to 10 finalists. The final competition will begin at 1:00 p.m. The first place winner will receive a $500 prize and a recording session from Randy Beason of Neely Arts Center. Christmas Lights at Palisades Park

Palisades Park will sparkle this Christmas season when thousands of lights will be glowing. The public is invited to drive through for the annual Christmas lights extravaganza between 5 and 9 any night in December except the 24th and 25th when the park is closed. The beauty of twinkling lights will be created by local businesses, churches, clubs and individuals of the county. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. The Blount County Quilters Guild will have Santa and refreshments at its cottage on two weekends at the park (call for dates).
